Once I get home and finally see my 250 and get him a toolbox I would like to put a kit together as well, but I have some questions...I know they may seem retarded, but please help! I drive to vegas at least once a month from base (2 hours or so) but it is one of the least driven routes ever, and if something does break you are in trouuuuble. Sometimes you will not see another vehicle the whole drive untill you hit I40. So my questions...
What are CPS, IDM, ICP, IPR, and PCM? How much would all of that cost? If they were spelled out I could probably figure it out... but i'm a loss! Thanks guys!

CPS or CMP, Cam position sensor, around $20 and is a very common cause for engine shutdown

IDM Injector driver module takes the 12vdc from the battery and raises it to 110-120vdc and then uses that to fire the injectors This is one of the parts I do not already have but I would guess you could get one from car-parts.com for less than $100.

ICP injector control pressure sensor, tells the computer how much high pressure oil pressure there is in the left head, less than $50 on ebay

IPR Injector pressure regulator, solenoid that regulates the pressure coming from the high pressure oil pump (HPOP) Can be had for less than $100 and is a common part to fail. You do need an extra deep 1-1/8 socket to get it off and extra oil to refill the reservoir afterwards.

PCM power train control module, the main brain or engine computer. I got my new one from car-parts.com for $75 and there is nothing wrong with my old one besides its old so I keep it as a spare. Classic sign of either a blown fuse or a fried PCM is the wait to start light doesn’t come on and the truck will not start.

So thats around $350-$400 worth of parts maybe less if you can find some good deals on eBay or car-parts.com. I’d bet that any one of those parts would cost you thousands when you add in towing and labor from an out of town shop.

One of the main reasons I started this post is to see what other folks thought about the spare parts list. I already have all of these parts sitting in a drawer in the garage except an IDM so I figure why not put them in the truck. However you do also have to have the knowledge to diagnose the problem and figure out which parts to change.

If I am within 200 miles of home, my aaa card and a cell phone

I carry a ton of little connectors, wires, hose barbs, 10 feet of heater hose (for my veggie system) hose clamps, spare set of fuel filters, oil, straps, laptop with AE and 2 different cell modems (bb and sprint). I have a socket set and a screwdriver set in the truck all the time and the CPS in the glove box.

The thing that worries me is having an injector fail far from home. I dont want to replace it with stock in a panic far from home when stage 1s can be had for cheaper then stock! o well, I just hope my injectors (if and or when) die close to home.

Cool thanks! I'm a Diesel Generator mechanic...deal with John Deere's and Cummins, never anything HIEUI injected. I am fairly handy. I knew the PCM (Doh) had to replace one on my F150 before, just thought I would make sure on what it is. Man I hope I don't have to replace all of this stuff often! But yes a worthy investment it is (400 vs. over 1000). Knowing me it would brake down with no cell coverage, 500 miles from the closest AAA place, and the closest town only has one diesel mech who is a thief! So, that list is definately on the to purchase when I return. Oh another thing to add to the list...A Haynes manual. I have one for the 150, and has helped me a lot! Especially the wiring diagrams in the back of it. Agreed on the come-along as well, got a 4 ton in the back of the 150, even though you can use a hi-lift jack as one as well. Also an Atlas should be on the list...too many people rely on GPS, what happens when the battery fails?
Also a good set of Mechanics gloves helps sometimes, especially when dealing with hot liquids/parts. I have seen an add for these funnels that are made out of nice cardboard, are single use, and just fold into place, those would be handy as well! Shoprags as well (old t-shirts). Anyway lol thanks for the help!
