'03 F-350 with no block heater-where do I get a cord?

I just picked up a 2003 F-350 which has no block heater cord. It's an early year '03 so it's a 7.3L. It was my understanding that all I need is a cord and that the heater is there, it just needs to be hooked up. Can I get one from NAPA or am I better off going to the dealer?

Make sure you don't have a cord already, if you do, the plug in will be tucked up under the passenger side front bumper. Mine was righ next to the tow hook. If you find it, it will be zip tied up there.
If you don't have one, go to any international parts house and you will find it cheaper than at ford. NAPA should have it too i think.

Check where the oil filter is at. It should be connected to the block there. You should be able to see this easily through the driverside wheel well. If there is an orange plug near the oil filter you have the cord and you just need to trace it from there to the front and find the other end. I believe that the 6.0L are the ones that did not come with the cord. The cord should be tucked up behind the front bumper somewhere.

No, they did...some of them didn't - maybe after a certain year it became an option but my 03 came standard with one.

Ok I just know that alot of guys with the 6.0L are always asking where the block heater cord is at and then they post that they don't have them. Maybe it is the 05-06 that they didn't come with them.

For 7.3's

97's were optional.

Cool, thanks guys. There's an International parts place down the road from me so I'll try them first.

I don't see why they didn't just put them in all the trucks, doesn't make sense to me, but I guess a dollar is a dollar in some beancounter's mind.

Gord.
