7.3 overboost / 80 hp +
Ive, read about the ses,overboost,map,etc.....
Should I use a boost relief valve in line? MAP fooler (wire harness insert) from sp tuner. Are there noticable gains by making this change? Also. Ive been told by reputable mech. that on the 7.3 any hp gain over the 80 is a waste. The engine cant use more than the 80. I have a DP chip. Power is good but on this big dually I would like to have a little better kick. Ive ridden in trucks like mine that completly rip. Maybe new turbo will help? |

The mechanic was refering to the OBS trucks. They can only make 75-80hp more than stock due to injector size. The SD's have larger injeactors and will make more power, but not sure the amount.

Map fooler
You can get more boost by installing the map relief valve but you probably should install a boost guage to monitor your boost. Don't want to blow any head gaskets or anything

Ive had guages for awhile now. What is a max boost pressure before damage?

My mechanic says 40psi on a 7.3 and bye bye turbo. On my 2000 I've seen 36psi. max, and no trouble yet. I installed a banks big head set to four turns max and usualy only see about 30 max unless I really drive it like I stole it. As for as the boost fooler, I run the wire/resistor off the map sensor and havent seen an ses light yet.
