Can't believe I'm suggesting this but I purchased one off of e-bay for $130. The company rebuilds them for the big box auto stores and the person I spoke with said they had a bench 7.3 test engine that they test each driver on before shipping. Blowing smoke??...Maybe but I have had it for 2 years with no problems. They were located in Ft. Lauderdale Fl. and send you a return shipping slip to send in the bad IDM. I am generally of the opinion that you get what you pay for but so far so good and it was hundreds cheaper than the re-manufactured ones offered at the local parts stores.
Hope you get it back running. Best of luck.
Look under computer box engine. It's at the top of the list. If you scroll through a couple of pages you will find some cheaper. Then contact the salvage yard listed. I am running one out of a van. They are all the same.
