non wastegated turbo
Anybody know any low cost tricks to get more boost from a 1996 non wastegated turbo? I got the truck in 2002. I don't know how well these turbos perform or what is normal. At low speeds it feels like the engine is starving for air, once I get the RPM's up to almost redline I finally get the kick in the pants boost. Thanks

Hmmm wished I could help ya out. Maybe get yourself a cheap diy tymar intake so it can breath better that might help

Get a tuner or chip. It will totally change the way the truck reacts. It will not feel sluggish on the bottom end. Add a 3" downpipe to help the turbo spool. Remove the muffler and cat (if you can) and use a high flow intake.

i have a 96 as well, have the same problem. take off the airtake shroud that goes over the battery. that'll help the turbo suck in more air on the low end.
