02 F-250 OD shifting problem !
02- F-250 shifting problem....OD light started out blinking and wouldnt shift into overdrive until it warms up or about 3 or 4 miles of driving...if i stop and kill the engine and restart it runs fine and shifts fine and no light blinking ...until now the light doesnt blink and it doesnt seem to go into overdrive ! Im thinking the OD switch on the shifter went out....and maybe the VSS is bad? Anyone have any input? Also where is the location of the VSS on the 02- F-250 3/4 ton 4x4 ?
thanks for the help ! |

Take it to a transmission shop. You have a transmission trouble code. They will be able to to find the problem and tell you the best way to repair. It maybe a shift soleniod, it maybe time for a rebuild.

Get the codes read, if you have shift error 1-2, 2-3 or 3-4 replace the solenoid pack, it's very easy to do, costs around $250 plus new fluid and filter
The VSS is on top of the rear diff, pull it out and clean it, but I doubt that is the issue. |

Where would be the best place to buy the solenoid packs?

I got mine from the local transmission parts supplier known as TCS in my area, your local trans shop should be able to bring it in for you, or as a last resort you could call your local ford dealership.
There are 2 different styles - solenoid or diode, but from what I was told there was a recall and most of the diode type packs were changed to solenoid type. I had to take mine out to figure out what type I had, difference between 4 or 5 check balls i think. |
