What is this seal?
I was looking at my front end and noticed something that doesn't look right to me. Not sure what this is but it looks like a seal that has come out. It's a black rubber ring that is just kind of flopping loose and it is like this on both passenger and drivers side of my truck. Take a look at the picture and tell me if I have a problem. I have it identified in the picture.

OK...is it supposed to be loose? It appears to have backed out. Like I said...like that on both sides.

No worries, that seal is not the important one. That one is just a dust seal.

OK Thanks. Has it just come out of place and if so should I get it back in or is it normally as pictured?

My right one was dingly dangling there a few weeks ago so my buddy pulled it off and said, huh? well that isnt susposed to come off, i said whatever as long as it drives and isnt broken I didnt care, the left one is new when I did the bearing and ball joint. I have been reading that the dust seal really isnt anything super important.

You can try and put it back in. Or just leave it be or remove it. |
