Spare tire "Key"

Took the time today and verified that I have to have a "key" of sorts to let my spare tire down. Is this something FORD keeps in stock or will I have to order it?

Seems kind of a dumb thing to secure. I have never had a spare tire stolen and use to just keep one floating around in the bed.

LOL... I had mine stolen out of my old F-150 before I sold it.

The guy buying it looked up underneath and said, "Hey where's your spare?" I thought he was joking til I looked down there!

Had to knock $100 of the price to satisfy him!

Follow up. Been researching where/how to get a key and saw where there are 13 different ones and you need your key code. I went out and dug around in the glove box. I found the key code. It was printed on the pouch that had the dang key in it. I guess I have never dug that deep in the papers before. It was turned black plastic up in a black glove box.

Never mind..............................

I am sure the VIN number should get you the key

Its the dumbest thing FORD ever did .. I understand that all the Liberals want to steal our spares and recycle them ... but FORD should have come up with a better idea.

Even when you have the key ..... **** strips out .... its garbage

You're right. I found it and it is trash. I read where I can just pry it out and the handle will fit.
