Another headlight question....

Alright, so I'm going to be doing the 05-07 swap with the harley headlights sometime in the late winter/early spring and i got to thinking about color matching the chrome part of the HD headlights. What do you guys think? Anyone done this before? If so i'd love to see some pics because i haven't found anything like it after multiple searches. Thanks guys!

No you can't do that- that's the "reflector" which is responsible for reflecting the light from the bulb. Only way to black it out is if you do a hid projector retrofit as the projector is what projects the light out ahead and not the reflector.

Edit- which is what I did on my 08 in my avatar. Search "2008 psd retrofit how to" in the 6.4 electronics section and you'll find my write up. It's not that hard, just get a second set of lights so you can take your time or knock it out in a weekend.

Would it make a big difference in the amount of light put out even with a 55w hid kit?

I don't know from experience but there's a reason it's chrome and not black. Your hid kit isn't even the right way to run hids. Click the link in my sig I just added, hids were designed to operate in a projector headlight system and not a halogen. Not tellin you what to do but then again you don't wanna half azz somethin like your headlights like everybody else does. Spend a few more and you'll be glad you did and you'll be wondering why you even went the half azzed hid kit route.

Not bad actually. There's an easier way to mount and align the projectors- you use that quiksteele puddy and that saves freakin hours! Soon as I can get the coin set aside I'll retrofit my 05 headlights I just got for my 7.3. Then I
Could get them done in a Saturday for sure. The fxr projectors are damn near as good as the Acura tl projectors, they literally light up 3-4 lanes on each side of the truck, it's freakin badass! And makes a seeing deer running at your truck easier that's for sure. YouTube "theretrofitsource" and you'll see their how to video using the quiksteele puddy to mount the projectors to the reflector. I used screws and had to adjust them which was a huge PIA, so the quiksteele will save hours and phrases such as f&@#^*!

I have a retro solutions 55w kit waiting to go into my truck after the swap…would those bulbs fit into those fxr projectors?

Thanks! I miss it, just got rid of it about 2 months ago...
As for the retro solutions bulbs, I'm not 100% but if they're designed to fit into your stock headlight they will not fit into any projectors as they require a different bulb than the bulbs you have from retro.
