Help please - tow mirror, upper, popped out, need hints to replace

I've an '02 with tow mirrors.
Limb fell on truck. First pic.
Top part of driver side rearview mirror POPPED OUT.

In the second pic I circled in red the pieces I know I got to slide back in, and it held for a while, but then the mirror fell out again.

I suspect I didn't get the "socket", circled in orange, to pop on.

I'm apprehensive to put to much pressure on it, I tend to break things.

Any suggestions on how to get it back together?

Just 'pop' it back in... untill the center ball is in the socket properly. If you push gently in the center in line with the ball you should be safe.

use a long set of needle nose pliers to get the pins back in for the mirror adjustment and line up all the pins then at the center of the mirror apply firm pressure until you feel it click
