08 conversion. .. over time

Figured I would start a thread to cover this even thought its been done before. I am still in the process of acquiring parts and its not gonna all happen at once, but over time. I am on a small budget here, still in college, and only working PRN at the hospital.

Found these headlights locally, guy had them sitting in his backyard for quite a while, the lens is not the best but.. the price was right.

Started to bake em and take them apart. (hilarious trying to explain why I was baking headlights to the fiance)

Finished product, 4 coats of gloss black on the chrome bezel, 2 coats of night shades on the reflectors, and 4 coats of clear on both.

And picked up this grille a little ways south of me, has one barely noticible surface scratch on the emblem, but good enough for me, and fit into the budget


Waiting to hear back on price to ship a ram air hood, and found fenders on partstrain for 170 shipped (non capa though, not sure on the quality there), and a bumper is proving hard to find in the non chrome option. Once I get more parts together I will update the progress.

Were the headlights easy to get apart. Did you do the 200 degrees in the oven or higher temp? Also did you need to use a heatgun to get them apart?
As for finding cheap parts try calling some of your local custom truck shops that do custom bumpers,lifts,etc they sometimes have the stock parts (like bumpers) sitting around and they sell them cheap or they might be able to refer you to a customer that has one.

I did 250 degrees, turned off the oven when it was in there, for 12 min the first time then 5-7 reheats. not that bad, just takes a while, they are actually pretty tough to break. thanks for the tip, ill give that a try.

Thanks for the head light info.I tried to do it with an extra 2011 headlight I had laying around at 200 degrees and couldnt get it apart. I guess I'll try it again at 250*. Thanks

Picked up a front bumper today, included were brackets, fog lights, wire harness, and hid balasts for the fogs.. It isnt exactly what I was looking for, but on the budget. It was chrome but was linexed. Pics later.

i got alot of my parts for my 08 conversion off craigslist and ebay. hardest parts to find was the hood, and fender vents at a resonable price

Yeah I havent found a hood yet

There is one on Craigslist in Dallas tx for 150 but shipping will prolly be way high

Thanks, I had a mild set back though... Gotta put this on hold for a bit. Replacing oil cooler, water pump this weekend... fun funds are gone for the time being..
