EBPV / ebpv sensor help!

Hi there, i've been doing lots of reading and i'm still a little confused and need a little clarification on a few things,

Does the EBP sensor do anything other than tell the EBP valve to open and close? my sensor and tube are in need of replacement, the cheepest i can find up here is $200 for the sensor and 70 for the tube. so can i just unplug that sensor and wire the EBPV to a switch in the cab like explained here

please let me know, i don't want to start cutting not knowing 100% what i'm doing. / order almost $300 of parts that are not needed

Basically i want all the say in what my EBPV does. and would like to know the best way of wiring it to do so, its a 2000 if that makes a difference
