Best Exhaust 2001 7.3
Please don't flame me if this info is on the board here somewhere. I spent about 30 mins searching but didn't really come up with much.
I've had my truck for about a year now, and now that I've decided I'm going to keep it for a long time I thought it would be nice if I did a little upgrading. I added a programmer/gages about a week ago, now I guess I should probably add a new exhaust. So that brings me to the subject of this post. With so many manufacturers I'm having a hard time deciding on what exhaust to go for. I would like something reasonably quiet, but with max flow. I guess those are probably 2 attributes that don't mix, but if I could find some middle ground that would work for me. Is there a point in going with a 5" other then the fact that it looks cool? Seems a little overkill, but then again, I'm reasonably new to the scene. Any info much appreciated. Seeing as I'm new to this forum and I realized half way through this message that I don't have a sig describing my rig, I'll list the particulars here. 2001 F350 SB CC 4x4 7.3 PSD. Edge w/juice, Firestone airbags, exhaust??? Joe |

welcome aboard
DONT EVER expect to be flamed here for askin a question. there are several good brands out there, mbrp, silverline, banks, magnaflow but for the money we have a site vendor http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/members/2559.html that has a killer deal on an exhaust system that will give you a nice tone but maximum flow |

I'm happy with my Farmboy special (see below). There are a few guys here who have gone from a 5" to a 4" due to the noise from a 5".

all the aftermarket mufflers sound pretty much the same. what makes your truck really loud is taking the muffler off and how short you make your exhaust.

If you run a straight-pipe system, does it quiet down at highway speeds or is it loud as balls all the time? I love the sound but I'm also logging some highway miles and don't want to regret the straight pipe decision.

Straight pipe was quieter inside the cab then my 4" mbrp muffler.
Louder outside though. |

I think you would be shocked at what a straight pipe can offer you. I am still running stock 3 1/2 out of my 7.3L....without a muffler of course. In town its maybe 15% louder at most. On the highway same. UNLESS YOU PUT YOUR FOOT IN IT. muuuhhaaaaaaaa
![]() Its louder @ 2K and turbo whistle is more noticeable. I chipped my with the 100 horse 165 T option and I am not heating up a bit. My buddy has a excursion 7.3l bone stock and the heat trips the cpu so he had to turn his down (same brand, same engine). I cut mine after going over the rear axle, angle down. Perfect. You will get tons of info concerning 4,5,&6....not to mention stacks...its your truck though |
