05+ Axle swap! Complete
So over the last couple weeks at night i performed the axle swap. wasnt bad to do actually. a little annoying once and awhile but i got her done. and it moved. pics!
This is a 2003 7.3L supercab lariat 4x4 truck the swap was done on. What you need: Front differential from 05-07, i dont know about 08 axles up. im sure your good till 2010, 2011 up have bunch more goodies. stick with 05-07 i know they work. Your factory abs sensors, or buy new ones like i did as one broke when i took it out. you cannot use the 05+ up ones, different design and yes they plug in but dont read. Re-use your old vacuum lines Coil Springs: choose your ride, 250-350-450. I used 07 F350 springs. Coil spring Rubber insulators Coil Spring Buckets from 05-07 Front brake lines from the 05 -07 from axle to coil buckets. Front Shocks and hardware- i used rancho's life time warranty. and they come factory and have a nice ride. Front sway bar, brackets and Sway bar end links. 05-07 Track bar and 05-07 Track bar bracket. 05 steering box and power steering lines and pitman arm. OR you modify the current 7.3L pitman arm. which i did, bought a reamer the same taper as the ball joint and reamed it out, hasnt failed yet 3000km 30-40" Pre made brake lines with fittings, Napa auto parts had mine with shielding, i bent them to form around the new coil buckets. Radius Arms and Radius arm brackets. and hardware. 1/8", 3/8" and 1/2" good drill bits. You have about 15 holes to drill. A wack load of 1/2 grade 8 bolts, washers and nuts, along with red locktite. I used 1/2" by 2" long bolts, on the drivers side radius arm bracket youll need shorter ones, fuel pumps in the way. 4-17" or up 05+ wheels, older 16" wheels will not fit over the brakes!!! youll also need one for a spare under the back! The drive shaft doesnt need to be changed. I also suggest upgrading the Rear Diff at the same time to correct the new width youll have. its about 3", best part, you can run factory new rims and not rub! I used a 2010 Rear diff with 3.73 i modded to fit! NOTE!! your factory 16" SPARE will no longer fit! youll need a 17" steelie off a new truck. The brakes are way bigger Also 50% of the holes are already there. you will need to drill quite a few. JUST REMEMBER, IN THE END ITS WORTH IT!!! ![]() ![]()

Ok I have an 03 as well but a 6.0. What I want to know is what's required to swap an 05 axles to my 03. Both are 4x4 trucks.
Nice truck look too! iPhone |

Thanks!
You need everything lol. 05-07 axles, replace the rear also, wider stance, bigger brakes, 17" spare tire. brake lines to spring perch, then buy 30-40" pre-made brake lines and bend to make fit with old lines, springs, shocks, spring buckets, coil rubber spacers, sway bar, sway bar links, radius arms, radius arm brackets, 05+ steering box and pitman arm or modify your old box. 05+ track bar bracket and track bar, wheel speed sensors from your current axle, newer sensors do not work.i found out the hard way. from 1/2" drill bit, lots of grade 8 bolts and red locktite. and a **** tonne of patience |
