Painting exterior trim??

The little 2'' trim thats at waist high on my truck is starting to have the clear coat come off.

Was wondering if anyone has removed this before? If so how? Also wondering if anyone has gotten it painted before?

Did it paint okay since it was plastic? Also my truck is white, and keeping a black and white theme, was curious if anyone had painted this trim black on their white trucks??? Would love to see pictures as i am very curious and possibly wanting to this to my truck!
