Painting 2000 grill and bumper
I have seen the colour matched painted grills and bumper top half on the 2005 trucks, and have wondered if anyone on here has painted their 99-2004 grill and top half of the bumper to give it that look of a 2005 style. If so, how did it come out? Anyone have any pics?
Thanks! |

2000 bumper and grill painting
Looks good painted black. How did you prep the chrome for paint? My body guy does not think paint will stick unless the chrome is ground off. I wanted to paint just the top lip area of my stock bumper body colour along with the grill. The truck is that deep burgundy/maroon colour and I have seen 2005's with a painted topper on the bumper and though it looked pretty good.

Grinding away all the chrome is the best way. I just sanded it to scuff it up and hit it first with adhesion promoter. Then I went over it with primer and finally the black spray on bedliner. It ocassionally may chip but since I did it with bedliner, touch up is easy. If I were to do a color match I would definitely try to prep the chrome better or get it all off. The top of the 05 style bumpers is plastic. They are kinda reverse from ours.
