power mirrors don't work

i am looking at an 01 f250 to buy, and the power mirrors don't work. the seller claims it is a common problem with that year. what would likely be the issue? they don't respond to the switch at all

I'd start with checking your fuse it should be a 5 amp. If that is good go to either the motor or the switch. I have not had any problems with mine so this is just how I would go about diagnosing the problem. Good luck.

I have on 01 F350 that had the same problem, which for me turned out to be the switch itself. Replacing the switch is easy and IIRC not terribly expensive, even with buying the switch at the dealer--around 20 bucks last fall. TS by checking fuse then checking the old switch for continuity.
