08-09 tailgate question

I can get one with no hardware for 250$. Will the hardware out of mine fit?

Also, I can get one for 425$ (new takeoff) with hardware.

How are these prices?

Last, I really wanted one with the step. Those are supposedly over a grand for a new takeoff according to the slavage yards I talked to. Can the non-step one have a step added? Are there arny good sources for these?

No you cant add a step to a non step gate.

As to the hardware issue that depends. Do you want to be able to use the lift assist that comes with the new gate? If you do you need the new hardware.

If you dont want the lift assist the old hardware is fine

All the latching mechanisms are the same. You need the 08 handle though. And like dave said, if you want the lift assist, then you need to change the drivers side roller/hinge on your truck to the new style. If someone took out the rod for the lift assist on the tail gate, good luck to you getting a new one in.. it sucks. I doubt they took it out, but who knows. And 250$ is a good price.. especially if its already your color.

yes the 08 tailgate will fit on the 99-07 trucks you just need an f150 trunnion for the drivers side hinge.....6.00-10.00 at your local ford dealer. I have one on my truck.
