Need tranny info??

hey everyone im new here but not to powerstrokes. mine is a 2000 f350 superduty crew cab 4x4 with the auto tranny. this tranny has died on my once because of the oil pump but was under warranty so it was no sweat on my brow. but now i bought a sand rail and have 3 quads and my current 32ft 5ther wont cut it. im thinking of getting a ATS transmission but i was wondering if i could be able to tow a 18,000 trailer with it? and ive been seeing a lot of john wood being thrown around? who is he and could he possible rebuild my tranny to pull 18k pounds or more? i only have 3 1/2 Dp with 4 inches from the tranny back. KNN intake and edge tuner and banks compressor wheel. i have the usual se of gauges bosst pyro and trans. i have about 6k to play with and would like to do a fully built tranny and maybe up my gearing from 3.73 to 4.10's. i do a lot of towing to glamis so im not maken too much power. probally 330 at the crank. i just want reliable puller without buying a new truck. plus it only has 31000 original miles! so it would not be worth trading in to me! thanks again.


oh and i forgot its not lifted but it does have 285/75/16 nitto terra grapplers. i dont know if that makes a diffrence. thanks again!

I wouldn't go with ats.


Go with a BTS(Brains Truck Shop) or John Wood Tranny. You won't be dissapointed.

And yes they can both build one to whatever specs you want

what part of cali you from because we have a local souther california powerstroke group and were having our annual meet on feb 8th

sweet your not too bad... the meeting is gonna be held at Sunrise Ford off the 10 Fwy....

and nope i had my trans rebuilt before i knew about JW... if not i would have had him do it...

heard nothing but good things about John Woods.He as a stage 1 tow master tranny for a good price that would probably handle what your planning.Call and talk to him.I guess he even has a thing where you show up in the morning,he rebuilds it and has you back on the road by the end of the day.Can't beat that.
