2002 7.3 overdrive light came on under acceleration

Truck is an auto. no the light was not flashing (yet). I came upon a tunnel and got excited and matted it. Truck was in too high of a gear and and didn't want to go anywhere when I pinned it until it downshifted. Rpms jumped up and the light came on. I also felt the transmission do something as the light came on. So its like the truck just slipped out of overdrive. Any thoughts or theories on this? I know a flashing OD light is the transmissions CEL, but that doesn't seem to be the case

there is probably a stored code so start by pulling the codes and see what you get.
