Trans rebuild

HOw hard are these transmissions to rebuild? I am going to need a new trans soon and I have a local mechanic that is willing to rebuild it for me as long as I buy all the parts up front. He is gonna let me make payments to him to pay it off since I don't have 2500-5000 to spend on a new or rebuilt one. What are some things I need to put into this trans?

I suggest you buy one of the kits from one of the vendors on here. I also suggest you get the triple disc billet torque converter as well.

I know Discount Power Parts has transmission kits on there site you can order.

My trans has all sun coast internals in it. I have had zero problems with my trans since I had it built like that.

I second suncoast parts. And definitely go with a better TC.

Is he going to warranty his work, will he go back in it for free if something fails, parts or his mistake??? Does he have the special tools to do the job RIGHT! Is he going to want you to buy unnecessary new parts?
If you can't afford to get it fixed right the first time , can you afford the 2nd time???
It's obvious I don't think a general mech should be working on these transmissions.

Do not buy discountpowerparts Recon Torque converter! it is the biggest POS out there, and they dont stand behind it, they hide in the opposite direction..

That sounds much better. Being at Ford, he can get the o'haul kit with clutches and filter. I do recommend an after market tc, billett cover multi clutch. Most any trans shop will sell you a Gil Younger basic shift kit. It's a good product. The worst problem is getting the trans cooler's flushed. Without haveing the proper equipment, it's allmost impossible.
