trans wont take off in 1st gear

I have a 97 f350 with a automatic. and when I put in drive "D" it wont take off in 1st I have to manualy put in 1st to take off. When I stop I have to repeat the same thing, manualy putting it in 1st. I just replaced the gear position switch on the side of the trans. any help would be apprectiated.

Is the linkage adjusted properly. I would start there if the trans was working properly prior to this repair.

May want to take it to a trans shop. Let them run diagnostics on it and check the linkage to ensure proper adjustment of the tr sensor.
