Down shift problem

I have a 2002 F350 with a 4r100 trans with approx. 170000 on it. I pull a lot of trailers with it. Sometimes if I'm pulling a trailer up a steep grade when it down shifts it will buck. It feels like a hard shift, but doesn't shift. I've also noticed when it's cold the CEL will go on and off thru 2nd 3rd and 4th not OD. Any body have any ideas as to what is going on?
