so I just got a call from the dealer...
And they said my mystery noise is coming from the internals of the ZF6....WTF. What inside of the trans would make it do that? I have noticed that is has been harder to shift into 3rd gear lately.
A short background. I just moved down to San Diego a few weeks ago from Seattle. Towing my enclosed trailer with 99% of my belongings in it, half way thru Oregon, I started hearing a speed related whining noise that sounded like diff howl to me. Next fuel stop, I checked both axles (rear was JUST replaced about 100 miles before I left), fluid was full, didn't smell like burning, so I kept on going. Had one local San Diego guy ride in it, and he thought it was the tires (35" M/T's), but the tires have been on it for months, and it happend all of asudden.... |

Update V2.0.
Miramar truck just called me back again, telling me its the input shaft bearing. They also noticed the trans mount was brand new on the xmember, and I explained that when Bill Pierre Ford fixed the oil leaks, they removed the trans (also installed my Valair clutch) to get to the leaks. When they replaced it, they forgot to bolt the mount to the xmember. I drove around for 3 weeks with my trans clunking, and resting on just the input shaft, putting a nasty side load on the bearing. I've got to go in tomorrow @ 9.30 to talk with the tech, the shop foreman, and everyone else there to get a game plan on how to make Pierre Ford pay up. |
