Major Tranny problem need help immediately
Guys please help. Last night a buddy of mine wrecked his truck. He called me to pull him out. When I got to him I found he was in the ditch and it would be easy to pull him out. Anyway I hooked up to his z71 reciever hitch and to my tow hooks. I put my truck in 4wheel and started pulling him out in reverse I got him out to the middle of the road with no problem. I wanted to pull him out of the road so I continued across the dirt road. This is where something went wrong. It felt like my truck bogged down and choked off. It was really strange because this was a relatively light pull I thought I was out of fuel or something I switched it back on and it won't go anywhere. Engine runs fine but won't engage in reverse, 1st, drive nothing. I tried taking it out of 4wheel it will dis-engage but still will not move I can hear the engine idle up when I change from park to drive or reverse like it is trying to go in but it doesn't. I took off the motor that switches from 2 wheel to 4 thinking it might not be engaging completely but it is. I have no Idea need help I have to drive this thing to work. It has 114k miles on it I really don't do any excessive heavy towing or pulling. I baby this thing. Thats why I am so surprised.

Are you sure your transfer case is not stuck in between?

I pretty sure
I used a wrench while I had the electric motor off to make sure it wasn't in between.

If you believe that your transfer case is stuck in between 2wd and 4wd. Do this leaving the transmission in park. Block the front tires, jack up the rear end. Try turning the driveshaft. If the transfercase is actually stuck in between 2wd and 4wd then the rear driveshaft will turn. Even with the transmission in park. Now if you are unable to turn the driveshaft like this. Most likely what happened is the torque converter gave out and that is where your problem is at.
But first you have to find out if it is the transfercase or a transmission problem. |

Define wont move. If the transfercase is stuck inbetween the main shaft of the trans will still be spinning and the pawl will ratchet if you try to put it in park while running.
Had a similar problem a long time ago with a gasser turned out to be the t/c. |

With the limited info we have, I'd guess TC also. I tore up mine once and it did a similar thing.

Nothing is moving
By nothing moving I meant nothing the drive shafts neither are moving
