In search of a replacement tranny, need advice..
My automatic tranny in my truck has been slipping of late. I knew I would probably need a transmission in the future, when I bought the truck last year, it now has 220K miles on it, and runs GREAT!(except for the tranny). I pull some heavy loads with a cattle trailer, so I want a rebuilt tranny that is strong and tough. Any recommendations on a shop somewhere in Kansas/Oklahoma that might be a good place to go? I could get help to install one, if there is an online vendor that might work better, or do I just go back to ford for one of their rebuilts? Any help is appreciated!

If your keeping your truck get a BTS, John Wood or a factory rebuild.

Don't rebuild factory. Buy a new one and get a 36,000 mile 3 year warranty. The rebuild is 12,000 miles and 1 year. The differance in price is not that much! I just replaced mine about 2 months ago

I'd stay away from Ford new or rebuilt for a 4R100. The factory tranny lasted for 99,000 miles. The first rebuilt lasted 12,000 miles but was guaranteed for 75,000/3 years. The second has about 5,000 miles on it and I believe I feel "something" already. It is supposed to be good for the 63,000 miles left on warranty.
I do not race it or treat it hard. Did get on a dyno for three runs.If not a BTS, then I would talk with guys who drag race and pull sleds. They will be able to point you in the direction of someone who can build your "last" one. |
