adding trans fluid

hey guys i have some fluid dripping from my truck it is dark and seems a kind of reddish .If my trans fluid is low should i add some before i drive it to the shop . what type of tranny fluid do i use?

tranny fluid is pinkish red, depending on its age.

it should either smell slightly sweet or burnt.

i thought mercon V was a no no to put in our transmissions
i thought it was dex 3?

Mercon V does not smell sweet, old dino fluids smell sweet, but the semi-synth or full synth fluids like Merc V is smell pretty bad.

OP in reality, your truck holds almost 20litres of fluid, some drips arent going to affect anything unless its leaked a lot.
