I need advice

Friday evening I was pulling a skid steer on a 150 mile trip through WV. All was going fine for the first 100 miles or so. Trans temps were 180 range then suddenly temp shot up to 260. I immediately pulled over onto break down lane. Tranny fluid was coming out from somewhere underneath. It was dark, so, I couldn't tell exactly where from. My Dad brought me some fluid and he pulled the trailer the rest of the way home. I put around 3 quarts in it and drove the rest of the way unloaded with no problems. Saturday I drained fluid, replaced filter, and filled/flushed with mercon 5. I drove it the 150 miles back this evening with no problems. No visible leaking. Fluid levels holding steady. My question is what else should I do? Also, what would cause this? I am moving back to GA around 8/1 and pulling my 16' enclosed trailer loaded with tools and furniture and don't want the same thing to happen. Thanks in advance for any help/info.
