Park to drive sticks in 1st gear

Test drove a truck last night with my buddy.

When shifting out of Park you have to go down to 2nd then to drive or the tranny will not shift out of first gear

If u go park drive and accelerate the tranny will stay in 1st

If u come to a stoplight and leave truck in drive it will shift fine

Only happens on the initial park to drive shift.

Owner claims its a sensor ?

No codes ?

Any ideas

Thanks Zach

I know the range selector can go bad and do some funny things and could be entirely possible here.

Only way to tell for sure is to hook up a scan tool and look for what gear the PCM is calling for, and what gear it's actually in
