need some guidance

i picked up a 99 powerstroke the other day and it had a tranny problem. when i start it up theres like roaring sound towards the front of the transmission. and the truck wont even budge. i have the axle out of it and when its running in any gear i put it in the output shaft is still spinning. and i can stop it with my hand. even when i give it throttle... while the truck is running when i go to put it in park it grinds, but if i shut it off and put it in park and start it up it runs fine and i can shift it out of it.

any ideas what it could be. or ideas where to start looking into, i planned on pullin the trans anyways just need ideas of a starting point. or if you think the trans is completely toast? and my trans is auto so thats the 4r100 correct?

Any codes?

Doesn't sound good...

If you end up needing a new trans and are keeping your truck a BTS is the last trans you will buy.

PM if we can help.

sounds also your flexplate is cracked. Make sure the shift linkage at trans is not sloppy too.
