Clanking when putting in gear

Hey I have an 01 f 250 automatic with a built fr 100. When I go to put it in gear it goes but makes this God awful clanking noise. I don't know if its a linkage problem or what it could be. Any suggestions would be helpful thanks

I gotta start with the obvious: how's your trans fluid condition & level? Last time tranny was serviced? Filter?
