used truck, are these shifts normal?

Hey guys I picked up a used truck, its a 2002 F-350 4x4 7.3 with an automatic. I am coming from the gm gas world so I am just trying to figure out if my truck is shifting propoerly....

Once the truck is warmed up taking off from a stop with normal acceleration, it revs up to about 2k shifts into second, dropping down to about 1700 then back up to 2000 and shifts into 3rd and I'm at about 35-40 mph and it stays in 3rd until rpm gets to 2000 again. it will stay at 1700-1800 rpm just cruising at 30-40 mphs until i give it enough speed to shift into 4th. Is this normal? Again I know the tranny tries to keep the truck in its sweet spot to not lug the motor but let me know if that sounds right? When getting onto the highway it shifts through all the gears no problem and drops into 4th and cruises at 65 mph at around 1800 rpms. Also I have 35" tires. Thanks guys!

The shift strategy on these trucks is really funky stock. A good VB and some custom tuning fixes that. These trucks use the hell out of the TC (which is a good thing...), unfortunately they tend to short-shift stock which isn't good. Your story is a bit confusing.. try taking a video if its really bugging you.
