2001 f250 not wanting to shift into second gear
Hello gentlemen
I have an 01 7.3l f250 crew cab platinum edition with 180k After putting a TS chip in it yesterday the transmission will not shift into second gear unless I let off the throttle and let it come down to an idle. I unplugged the chip and it still Does the same thing. All other gears seem to shift fine. Fluid is full and doesn't smell burnt.. Any help Would awesome Thank you joe |

01 says it all, has a diode trans. Pretty common problem for that to fail.

Is that something that can be fixed with out removing the tranny? Or will the tranny need rebuilt or replaced?
What's the best route? |

The real fix for it is a tranny rebuild. There is more stuff to check before you just tear it apart, so don't get the idea I am telling you to just rip it apart. I'm not the smartest guy on the 4r100, but the 2001 have a mechanical diode that fails and causes it not to shift into 2nd. Have there been any other issues at all with it lately?

No there hasn't been any issues at all. Doesn't seem to slip.
So your saying that it can't be fixed by dropping the pan? |
|

|
Nope. usually people fix it by putting in a built trans. The newer model trucks don't have the issue. Let me see what info I can dig up pretaining to the diode and I'll post it here for you.

Many people have had this problem. The problem is 2001 4x4 f350 diesel with the 4r100 tranny. That was where Ford switched to a mechanical diode one way clutch. This clutch is used for the 1-2 shift. When it fails, and it does, it will only shift 1-2 when you let off the go pedal. After a while it won't shift 1-2 at all, and the parts that are breaking off of the mechanical diode are going all over the trans.
That trans must come out and be rebuilt or replaced. Sorry. __________________ copied and pasted from the smartest 4r100 guy I know (former ford automatic transmission engineer) |

Post #5... The guy is probably the smartest trans guy I've met.

TS told me to go pound sand and said my tranny was junk before the chip.
