99 f350 shifts late from 2nd to 3rd gear

Hey guys i know this is my first post in here but im just really stumped on this issue that im having with my f350. Some background info - 340k miles, k&n cai, and thats about all i can think of for right now. Note that i bought the truck with this problem @339k miles. I only really noticed the late shifts when i drove my friends 7.3 and his seemed to shift around 22-2400 rpms and what mine is doing from 2nd to 3rd gear is going up all the way up to 38-4000 rpms then finally going into 3rd. If anybody can shine some light on this that would be great!

I would say start with the valve body. I think it's hanging up. Let me do a little research on it but I believe that is the same tranny they put in the 5.4 gasser trucks and I had one and it was really bad about shifting into 3rd after playing in the mud and rocking it back and forh. Come to find out someone was off in the valve body and i was getting ready to go back into the tranny but the truck got totaled so I will have to look into it for you the best I can.

My truck does the same thing as op truck, mines an 01 with 226xxx. And a bunch of mods. It drives me nuts with the late shifts!

I also have late shift,to point when I get on it my rev lim kicks in not all the time but mostly when getting it,trans just rebuilt and beefed up with all the goodies.
