Will not shift to third. So I finally jumped the gun and purchased myself a powerstroke. I think I got a pretty good deal with the truck over all. Just needed to buy the starter and supposedly the batteries are bad. But we will see about that.
I bought it with 175k on it for 3500. Its a f250 super duty with 4wd locking hubs. Its an early 99 BTW I found that out through a friend. It seems to be in good condition other than that I can't see what radio station I am listening too lol. Then that there are one or two fuses that just have a copper wire rather than a fuse.
But onto the main problem with the truck. I can't get the thing to shift out of second gear. It will shift from 1st to 2nd but thats as far as it goes. Every once in a while it will act as if it is in neutral from a dead stop and then it will engage kinda harshly and then it will start going. But I had to just go slow as **** and keep the rpms higher than I would on the freeway to get home. I was going 45 and it was at about 2500 rpms. does that sound like 2nd?
I am hoping that I don't need a rebuild on the thing but it seems like thats what I am going to have to do with it. Its currently in a shop getting looked at but I figured I would ask here.
My friend thought that maybe the thing was put into valet and that's why that it wont shift but I don't know. The transmission is full on fluid and it does not smell or look burnt.
But if anyone has any suggestions on if it could be anything simple I am overlooking. I have looked at these two threads but both had slightly different issues so I wasn't sure if I had a different problem
noob transmission rebuild ... for the poor man
Transmission Shifting Issues
Side note I tried to take it to redline and cruise control it but at redline it hit what I would call fuel cut and so I just left it alone.
