installing new shift cable
been searching but haven't found a good answer yet, maybe someone can help.
replaced the neutral safety switch last week and took my shift linkage off in the process. Had some rocks up there that i cleaned out. I now cannot seem to get the linkage adjusted right. I either have park and no first gear or 1st and no park. Still have some trouble with the starter not engaging when i go to start it as well. Do i start on the transmission side and get it close, then move to the underdash adjustment or vice versa? What is the best way to get it in the ball park before i start? |

I just got a new cable and have the same problem. No low gear, it seems like the cable is too long. There is no under dash adjustment. Just a clip that you slide into notches on the transmission end of the cable, and mine"s as short as it will go and still pushing into park too far. The adjustment is in a different spot than the old cable, not on the lever but onn the front mount. Maybe it's the wrong cable.
