Tru-Cool Shaving Flush Out

Can the Tru-Cool 4739 Transmission cooler be flushed out to remove metal shavings? One transmission shop has said yes using a "Hot Flush" machine and another has said that it is not possible. I don't want to have to purchase another tru-cool unit if I can avoid it.
