Rattle noise at idle HELP!

Hello,

I've searched the forum but cannot find anything that sounds like my issue.

I have a '99 7.3l F250, 140xxx miles. I have an extra sound other than the normal diesel engine at idle sound. It's usually only at idle and goes away under power.

I took it to a local heavy truck shop and they say it's the torque converter.

They gave me two options, an equivalent replacement for $375, or a "heavy duty" one for $750.

Does anyone know what the difference is, and if it's worth another $400 for the heavy duty?

I am having same issue, talked to buddy of mine that does trannies, he said this is a common issue with these torque converters. He told me to spend the extra money the aftermarket upgraded converter has a solid billet cover and will last unlike the stock model.

I have found some HD ones for less than $750, it your price includes parts and labor, I would think good price.
