sometimes it shifts sometimes it doesnt.

the truck i am looking to buy has 232k miles. one owner truck and is an 01. the guy that owns it says that it will most of the time shift normal and as it should. but at other times it will only have PRN and 1st. it will not shift out of 1st gear. i was wondering what it would be. there are a couple more threads with the same problem but no one hit on it.

Is the computer commanding the shift and it's just not happenning or is the computer just not commanding the shift. 2 different diagnostic routes??????
