Manual tranny fluid suggestions

I'm replacing the rear casing on my 00 ZF6 transmission and will be refilling it with fresh fluid when I'm done. Any suggestions on what fluid to put in it and about how much it holds. Thanks for any input.

Unfortunately I didn't recieve an owners manual with the truck so I'm pretty much flying blind on this one. Atf fluid, that is kindof wierd. Thanks for the replies guys.

Yep - its ATF in both the tranny and t-case. I just did it this evening; used Royal Purple...$$$$$ but it makes all the difference.

use atf or heavy duty gear oil wont matter much either way, park truck on level ground undo plug and fill it till fluid runs back out.

putting atf in a manual tranny will significantly shorten the life of the tranny. ZF 6speed manufacturer calls for synthetic 10w30 motor oil. i use royal purple bcuz of its superior longevity and cooler operating temperature

Running Mobil1 Synthetic ATF in my 00' ZF6. Mine took near 7 liters(qts), but I had my trans out so the cooler lines most likely drained out a bit.
