2nd gear slip 4r100
this issue is with my friends truck. we were riding around and playing around a little and he got on it hard like 3/4 throttle and it pulled for awhile in ysecond then we felt a jolt and the engine went right to governor. thought right away we snapped the input shaft but later found out that every gear works normal other than second. the trans also makes a whinning sound now while slowing down. what could have let loose in there to make second slip so bad a broken clutch band?

The band is only applied in manual 2. What year is the truck?

This tranny is weard...
it only has a band for overdrive; the rest are clutches. Mine lost all forward gears...still checking it out!!!

so basicly it needs a full rebuild?

The band is not for OD. It only applies in manual 2. The intermidiate clutch applies and the intermidiate sprag locks on upshift to second. You very well could have a broken sprag on the intermidiate/direct drum.

Fordnuts is right on the band. It's only for 2nd gear holdback. I left one out once, customer had already picked the truck up when I found it on the table. He didn't live on the mountain so... he never called back with a complaint.
