10k Mod destroyed my TRANY???
So I was bored and thought I would see if the cheap o 10k mod would do anything. I plugged in a 10k 1/2 Ohm resistor and went back to work. A few hours later I went into town. It had been raining all day and was starting to feeze so I thought the "slipping" was at the tires. Once I realized it wasnt from the roads being slick I pulled over and pulled that POS resistor out. I went home for a couple hours and left again. Same issues! I pull over and get a couple codes P0733 and P0741. I know what they are and am "googling" stuff now. I cleared the codes last night thinking that damn resistor changed my shift points and maybe they needed to be cleared. IDK About an hour later I had to drive home, I got half way and lost everything. R D 2 1... nada zilch caput! I ended up calling my father at 3a.m. to pull me home.
Anyone EVER have this problem when they did the 10k? I'm not saying it was it but seems to me it damn well coulda been. I'm gonna call around tomorrow and see about replacing the TSS and OSS before I have to get "tranny swap" crazy. YES its due for one at 244k, but like anyone I would prefer not to. Especially this time of the year! Thanks for your help |

i didnt have any problems when i did the 10k on my old truck sounds to me like it might just be the tranny finally letting go bets of luck

I was asking if that resistor could have caused a "short" or triggered something that made dominoes fall. The tuner has only been on the truck for about a month and was running PERFECT before I did this mod. Which BTW I didnt notice ANY difference.

may have just gone out the same time you did the mod. it probably wouldve done the same with or with out

thats just dandy.... ah well aint no point getting hell bent on somethin that was bound to happen.
Anyone have ideas on what I should do for a replacement? Like what I should look for and perhaps where? I'm open to thoughts on things I should "realistically" do with the next one. I'm pretty sure I cant do a custom rebuild although I would like to. I'm obviously not made out of money and this truck is my DD (good thing the wife has wheels) |

Did better than me, mine only lasted 94,000 and that was with 30,000 mile service intervals and a auxilary cooler. Center support came loose and caused premature wear. You should feel lucky

To answer your question, No the 10k mod can not do anything to change your shift points. Even if it did short out, if it did short out then your engine would run rough.

If you are mechaincally inclined and can read get the service manual from ATSG, and rebuild the thing bigger and better. There lots of places out there to get parts from, like John Wood, BTS, ATS, Suncoast,.... You should be able to build a pretty stout tranny for a decent price and then you know you got something
