2001 Powerstroke tranny missing gears

I have a powerstroke with a tony wildman chip and on race it seems like it is missing 3rd gear so it rev's extremely high and i have to let off and then it will shift into that gear. whats wrong with it? transmission failure?

Does it do it on any other settings? If it does it all the time, it sounds like the mechanical diode again.

Thats a little different, might be slipping clutches then. The high rev or missing third gear usually means the diode, if it's there, broke loose. It's on the direct drum which is also third. When it free wheels, it has to slow way down to catch and sometimes won't at all, hence no second to third shift. The burnt fluid, still not a good sign.
