tranny got pretty hot last nite, have few questions

so last nite my dads 97 ccsb had a rash of issues, broken belt took out the PS hose.after getting that fixed his TC gave up the farm and all its glory on the road. im sure the 300k,stock tranny and the fact that he was towing 10k pounds didnt help.

so i ended up towing for him.and everything was great until the 12% grade and stupid *** drivers.

temp got to around 225 per my autometer gauge. now were the gauge gets its signal has me stumped. i have a magtech pan and it looks like it is connected on the side of the pan not in the dead spot on the side of the tranny. plus my gauge sits at 145* dead cold but the gauge starts at 140*. so i think its a combo of bad location and gauge. currently ordering new gauge and sender.

will i get a better reading using the location suggested in all the write ups?

as for how hot it got thank god its built. it recovered fast and drove great home so all seems ok. i have a larger cooler already ordered. plus it looks like ill be doing all my dads towing until his 3 trucks get fixed(2 - 6.0l strokes with blown egr and now the 97 with blown tranny)

in a effort to give back to my truck after last nites ordeal im changing the oil and tranny fluid today. ive read alot on tranny fluid changes and the new fluids that are suggested. what fluid should i use for the tranny?
