HOW TO ADJUST SHIFT CABLE?

At first I thought my trans was going bad, but after dropping in first manually I realized it didn't slip then. I then began putting it in between drive and 2 and found a spot it pulled fine in first(the only gear it slipped in), but I couldn't find a location it would lock in. I looked at trans shift arm and saw no adjustment. Then I looked under the dash at the column and didn't see any adjustment there. How do I adjust the cable?
