I have a 2003 Ford f250 4x4 that is bone stock with the 7.3 engine and a auto transmission. It has 454000km's most of them highway. The tranny seems a little worn, what I mean is it shifts a little sluggishly and a little more RPM's to get it up to the posted speed limit.I came across a deal for a transmission from a 2001 F250 Superduty 4x4 that has the 5.4 Triton engine with a whole lot less KM's.My question is would a 4r100 transmission from a gas engine work in a diesel powered engine?Would the bell housing bolt pattern be the same? Any help would be appreciated.
the bolt pattern will fit but diesel trans are pulse width modulated and require different solenoid and torque converter and different pump. Also there are some clutches that are totally different due to the tremendous torque diesels produce. I would say rebuild old one.
I don't know about the manual but the automatic will not. The dowel pins are a different size. Don't even attempt to drill them out to match, these are what keep the trans centerline matched to the crankshaft centerline to within .001. No room for error.
