OD Light and code...
The other day my OD light starts flashing but my truck is running fine. I stopped, shut off the truck then restarted it and the light went out. All the while the truck ran fine, shifted fine and no problems. This is the second time this has happened, the other time was when my IDM was going out last October. Had the IDM replaced then.
The code I got was P0741 - Torque Convertor Clutch performance or stuck off. Any ideas? Do I need to worry about this since there's no noticable performance issues? Last edited by MtPaul401; 01-23-2010 at 01:58 PM. |

Paul, don't be in such a hurry. Some of these guys don't get on here but once a week!!! Your trans will still shift fine with the tc not nocking up but it will set the tc code. Depending on your miles , you may be able to replace the conferter now. Just be advised that if the trans goes out 1,000 miles from here, the converter will have to be replaced again,,,contamanation.

I know, I had a lot of free time this weekend and a lot of on-line time. My bad for being impatient.
Anyways, more info on the truck - 170 K on it. Had the tranny serviced at 125 K, so I know it's overdue. That time it was just a full flush but no filter change. I checked the fluid level, it was fine but the dipstick came out with a some crud on the end. Getting service done this weekend, fulll flush, new filter. Going with Amsoil on this change. Been driving it a lot this week, commuting 150 miles per day. No issues. I read on one post somewhere that dirty fluid can cause the TC solenoid to throw a code...is that correct? I have no choice to drive it, hope it works out well. |

Dirty fluid by itself will not throw a code. The reason it's dirty will, ground up clutch material, metal. With the problem your haveing, I think youre wasting money changeing to Amsoil. It's good to have in the tranny but only if it's working right.
