O/D light not illuminating, and O/D not turning off

On my 2001 7.3 CC Dually my overdrive light on the gear selector will not illuminate in gear. It does illuminate when in park however. Also while in gear it does not down shift (turn off overdrive) any help with this problem would be much appreciated!

The shifter has the wires running thru the center of it and where they exit it the steering column, they chafe into. The shifter is about $65 at ford and has new wires in it. A bit of a pain to change but that's what's wrong. Very common problem.

it was the wires, I fixed it and it works fine! thanks for all the help!
