4R100 codes

OK so I know it's not a Powerstroke buy my bro has got a Lightning that has a 4R100 in it. It's the same tranny as the SDs so I figured some people here might have some insite on it.

So basically he said it started slipping and it feels the TC isn't locking. Then when we met up he tried to back it into a parking spot and it wouldn't go into reverse. When we let it sit for a few hours and started it back up it did go into reverse at first then after it warmed up just a little it would not again. Also when you put it in gear it makes a little bit of a grinding noise. It doesn't sound like the typical TC rattle that I've heard and it only does it when it's in gear not in neutral or park.

I hooked my AE up to it and pulled the following codes.

P0741 Torqe converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off
P0782 2-3 shift malfunction
P1744 Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit.

We checked the fluid and it looked dark but he said it never got over 180°. It looks like there are some metal shavings in it but it's hard to tell for sure.

The 1st and 3rd codes seem pretty obvious it's got a TC problem. I'm not sure if it's the actual TC or the electronics that activate it.

So for those who are familiar with these trannies what all does it sound like is up with it? We're talking about pulling it and tearing it down ourselves. I've just never been into one so I'd like to have an idea of what I'm looking for so that I don't overlook something while we have it apart that could be a problem.

Thanks for any help!

The hesitation going into gear is problably the filter allmost stoped up from the clutches out of the tc and 3rd gear.
