No first gear?

My truck has a 4r100, when you go to take off it revs up to 1500-2000 rpm before the truck moves. The next time you take off it acts normal and no problems. It has been serviced in the last 6 months and has a new convertor. Any ideas?

the suncoast is a very good upgrade to the 4R100. I have a similar setup in my excursion and it has worked fine for the past 35K miles. the original 4R100 in stock form is just a Piece of .... in my opinion...

I just got my trans back from getting rebuilt. It has heavy duty clutches, a shift kit and triple disc converter. It has issues, it shifts to quick from first to second and then second to third it drags out. and third to overdrive seems fine. It shifted better than that before the trans went out. Any ideas?

It sounds like the shop that did your transmission doesn't have the proper settings for the shift points and stall speeds. Also, when you have higher output engines like ours, the transmissions should be set up way differently that required for a stock set up - if that makes sense. My transmission was done by ATO in Sacramento, Calif and I was told that in it's current form, it could handle 650 to 700 HP although I'm nowhere near that amount. It shifts like a car unloaded and is very precise towing. My excursion weighs nearly 9000 lbs and sometimes I tow a boat that weighs 85oo lbs and the transmission performs perfectly with or without load. Also, Jim at ATO offers the extreme rebuild that handles way more than the 700 that mine can handle.
I think you need to return the truck to the shop and have them take another look at their settings. It won't last long set up as it is now.

What I've read about this trans setup (Suncoast) is that they have to port and respring some of the galleries in the valve body. mine is set up to provide more flow with larger ports and it sounds like yours is set up with less flow and higher pressure. hard to say which setup is better. the suncoast package contains precise instructions as to how to set it up and the ports must be drilled perfectly for the system to work properly. It sounds like they didn't do it properly. I also run catapillar spec fluid in my tranny for reliability. it can take much higher temps than even synthetic trans fluids - good for low speed heavy loads where the cooler doesn't work as well. Expensive stuff though.

I changed the accumulater back to a stock one and it didnt change. So I changed the the shift solenoid pack and still no change. He orderd the input and output speed sensors to try, I dont think it will help, but its worth a try. The shift kit is a Trans go, it also wants to drill a small hole in the valve body plate and install a spring and spool valve in the pump. Do you think this could be the problem. I checked the trans psi and its all within specs.
